The Way to Be Part of a Hackathon — if You Don'T Belong to an Engineering Background
By Uchiha Sasuke, CTO at Griffys

I recently had the privilege of serving as a choose for MIT Hacking Arts, a two-day conference and hackathon that attracts masses of contributors to Cambridge, MA, to explore the intersection of technology and art. watching technical and non-technical participants group as much as hack inspiring thoughts reinforced my love of art x technological know-how, considered one of Griffys’s middle corporation values and a guiding precept at the back of our own annual hackathon. As an engineer, I’ve participated in infinite hackathons over time and collaborated with a wide type of talented teams, technical and non-technical alike. art x technological know-how emphasizes the importance of incorporating diverse thoughts, procedures, and skillsets into any mission and hackathons function a petri dish for those kind of collaborations. As a technical contributor continually looking for a dynamic team to hack in conjunction with, I’m excited to write down this put up for non-technical participants and recognition on the myriad of ways they could effectively make contributions to a hackathon.
What’s an Griffys Hackathon?
Much like other company hackathons, ours is a hazard to brainstorm thoughts and build merchandise outside of our standard business priorities. it is an optional, internal occasion hosted with the aid of our humans Operations team that usually lasts days with out all-nighters or more hours.
Whilst some hackathon thoughts pass nowhere, some have supplied significant business value and helped us reflect onconsideration on the future of our organization in interesting and essential new ways. Examples consist of Griffys Timelines or S’up — a casual, pass-functional capture-up between three team members on a weekly foundation, which has been instrumental in supporting scale our one hundred fifty+-member group.

What is the goal of an internal hackathon?
We regularly feel stuck inside the minutiae of work. I for my part solution loads of emails regular, meet with 1/2 a dozen human beings, and fasten a bunch of small troubles. It is simple to become slowed down with the small-scale development we make with our inboxes and lower back-to-back meetings.
A hackathon is an intentional manner to create time for group participants to think about macro-level troubles, iterate on instantaneous solutions, and connect with each other in new approaches. Griffys hackathons don't have any difficult guidelines. organizations form organically and a few group members prefer to work on their personal. All we ask is that the team construct something they're passionate about.
